BNDES Projects R$ 300 Billion in Support and Strengthens Brazil's Global Presence

The BNDES’s financial support projection for 2026 reinforces the Bank’s role in industry, infrastructure, innovation, and the international expansion of Brazilian companies.

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) — projects total financial support of approximately R$ 300 billion in 2026, an amount equivalent to about € 50.92 billion, based on the reference exchange rate of € 1 = R$ 5.892, recorded on September 21, 2026. Since the exchange rate fluctuates daily, the amount in euros is an approximation. (agenciadenoticias.bndes.gov.br; centralbankmalta.org)

This financial capacity positions the BNDES as one of Brazil’s leading instruments for development, industrialization, infrastructure, innovation, and commercial expansion. However, the R$300 billion represents the Bank’s overall projected operations and is not a fund set aside exclusively for international investments.

Through the BNDES Exim lines of credit, Brazilian companies can obtain support to produce and export goods, technologies, and services to buyers in the Middle East, Europe, the United States, and other strategic markets.

The BNDES does not freely transfer funds to foreign governments. The Bank primarily finances the production and sale of Brazilian goods and services. As a general rule, funds are disbursed in Brazil, in reais, following technical, financial, legal, socio-environmental, and compliance reviews. (bndes.gov.br)

Support may be provided prior to export, by financing domestic production, or after the sale. Under the post-shipment program, the Brazilian exporter may receive payment in full upfront, while the foreign buyer makes payment in accordance with the contractual terms, guarantees, and risk assessment. In addition to the overall projection of R$ 300 billion, as of June 30, 2026, the BNDES had R$ 22.5 billion allocated to the Brasil Soberano Plan, equivalent to approximately € 3.82 billion. These funds are earmarked for a specific purpose: to support Brazilian exporters affected by trade barriers, tariff increases, and international instability. (ri.bndes.gov.br)

In the Middle East, there are opportunities in energy, oil and gas, agribusiness, food security, infrastructure, engineering, aviation, defense, healthcare, technology, and logistics. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain are implementing major economic diversification programs that could incorporate Brazilian products and services.

In Europe and the United States, this support can enhance the competitiveness of Brazilian companies in the aircraft, machinery, equipment, food, renewable energy, technology, and industrial products sectors.

Under the BNDES Exim Automatic Post-Shipment program, exports of goods produced in Brazil can be structured through a letter of credit issued by an authorized foreign bank. Manufacturers, export companies, trading companies, and commercial export firms incorporated in Brazil are eligible to participate. (bndes.gov.br)

Each transaction is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Approval depends on the exporting company, the buyer, the destination country, the guarantees, the buyer’s ability to pay, and compliance with BNDES regulations. No intermediary institution may promise or guarantee the release of financing.

The InvestBrasil Institute can help identify opportunities, bring Brazilian companies and international investors together, and support the institutional structuring of projects, without replacing the Bank’s official analysis.

Through transparency, good governance, and legal certainty, the BNDES can serve as a bridge between Brazil’s productive capacity and major global markets—bringing Brazilian products, technology, and services to the world and bringing development, investment, jobs, and new opportunities to the country.
